Millie Penner West

Catcher of balls, lover of fish, and truly bonded with Sheldon her brother, we lost our darling Millie on Sunday, December 13th 2020.
Our Millie had a rough start to her short life. Born into a hoarding situation in a house in Surrey, BC, Millie and her brother Sheldon were rescued from the attic by a volunteer organization named VOKRA in 2016.
Upon our adoption of Millie in 2016 it was discovered that she had a herniated diaphragm, which required a major operation and lengthy recovery. Mille bounded back from her operation and went on to live a happy and secure life. Bonded with her brother Sheldon, Millie loved to play catch, chase balls, lie in the sun and cuddle with her brother.
Millie loved fish and would stand under our chairs at dinner time when this was on the menu. We eventually started cooking some for her separately so that she could join in with us at dinner! When she heard the word “FISH” she would come running, no matter what she was doing.
Millie was smart. We loaded a ball with a small dispensing hole with treats and Millie soon figured out that if you rolled the ball a certain way … the other cats would just watch her and reap the rewards, though they didn’t do any of the work!
In the summer of 2020 we took Millie to the vet as she didn’t seem as energetic as she used to and had lost weight. It was sadly discovered by the vet that she had a serious heart condition, with “imminent threat of cardiac arrest”. Through medication and love, we kept Millie happy and secure in our home, though she continued to lose energy and weight.
At Christmas we brought in a tree and Mille decided to move from her cat house to a corner under the tree, where she napped and surveyed the world.
She passed away at the Canwest Vet hospital on Sunday, December 13th. Sheldon spent a lot of time under the tree after that. It used to break our hearts.
Rest in peace our darling Mille.
